Aya Shimohara / 下原亜矢
<BIOGRAPHY>
Aya Shimohara was born in 1986.
She majored in design at Kyoto Saga University of Arts but focused on painting independently.
She started her career as a planner and designer in the apparel industry before becoming an independent artist in earnest in 2017.
To date, she has actively exhibited in various countries.
She uses her own painting techniques, “Mirror Paint” and “Index Finger Paint”.
Also, the panel that imitates the digital device she uses is her original.
<STATEMENT>
Using panels that resemble digital devices, I create paintings with selfie compositions and mirror painting on the theme of the relationship between others and self, and the ambivalent nature of having incompatible feelings at the same time, which is highlighted by online activities.
I want to communicate with the viewer by creating an interactive trick where the viewer can see their reflection in the mirror-painted area.
This is because what I want to convey is universal and applicable to everyone.
